The 'empty' command lets you dump things out, but it's safer to use the 'get' command instead:

look in sack
get itemname sack
get all.itemname sack
get all sack

There's a lot of options when using the 'get' commands.

No, there's no zip file like that.  However, you should be able to install Mush-Z without administrator permissions - just install it in your user account directory.

I don't really think there's any effective way to do that if you don't have the characters on your keyboard.  That's something you'll have to figure out in your operating system or computer settings.

On the plus side, you don't actually need the bracket characters for anything (at all), and even the dollar sign is a limited use symbol that you won't need to use very often, if at all.

Oh, that's the button off to the side.  Honestly I don't even know how that one is even set up internally.  I've always just assumed that people shut off that button bar soon after they start playing, and never had a real good idea of how to handle it in the general case.  I'll queue it up to take a look at it, but no guarantees - the best thing to do might be to simply remove it so people don't get confused.

Familiars do get more powerful with more powerful soulstones, but not by very much.

The function keys work by triggering an alias on the server, so by changing the alias you can change what the function keys do.  For example, pressing f1 invokes the 'f01' alias, while f8 invokes 'f08'. There's a pretty good help page under 'help fkey' that should help you figure out what to change, and several help pages on setting or changing aliases.  Good luck!

FYI, all of the tank minions, eg clay man, wood woad, metal construct, bone guardian, and flesh beast take the same amount of mana to maintain.

The green demon varies with soulstone level, though I don't know if it ever goes higher than +2.

Some minions require more when they are injured so they can heal faster.  I think this might just be mage minions, but it may also apply to water weird.

Timby, there's actually quite a few items with the 'infravision' spell on them, including the night-vision goggles and and a miners helmet.  I'm not sure the easiest place to find those in particular, but if you keep your eyes open in the donation rooms something is bound to turn up eventually.

One thing to keep in mind is that infravision won't let you see that much farther.  One way I use to keep track of nearby creatures is to use the dancing lights spell - by sending it into nearby rooms, I can tell what's there for an extended period of time (and scan works after you do it.)  There's a handful of ways of dealing with the problem, but each has drawbacks.

Unfortunately, this is a known problem:  the client downloads the sounds while it's running, and it takes a while to get all the sounds that it needs.  Fortunately, that also means that the problem will go away after the client has been running for a while, because it'll eventually have all the sounds.  Since there's so many sounds, I think it can actually take an hour or two to grab all the files.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you right now - I'll put some notes in the client code to look at it again.  There might be a way to increase the priority of what gets downloaded so this is less of an issue.

Our annual Leaping Leprechauns event is now running, with pots of gold out there for everyone to collect, a mob PK arena to compete in, and a special event quest area.  You can use the 'show event' command at login to see which events are open when, and how to access them.

The event will run until at least Thursday, so everyone will have a chance to grab some treasure.  Have fun!

If you're talking about an area that's more than one or two levels higher than Roch'Tar, we won't do it.  We've tried putting higher level areas on the islands like that, and it really doesn't work that well.  Anything over level 20 really should be on Archais or the mainland.

Actually, the help page for 'help advice' has some pretty good comments on this topic.  However, the main thing to keep in mind is that you'll never have enough practices, so at high levels you'll probably want to buy practices directly with experience or credits.  (They cost between 10 and 20 million exp each at higher levels.)

Usually, I recommend that you train your stats, spells, and skills as you need them.  If you're a spellcaster, that makes it pretty easy - just learn the spells you want, and if your int/wis are too low then train the stats up until you can get the spells.  If I find myself sitting on a lot of practices, maybe I'll buy a str or dex here or there to make it easier to carry things.

For warrior/thief classes, I try to split practices between skills and stats, usually dex and str.  The thing to remember about fighter classes is that you'll eventually want to get some spells, and the casting stats are usually the lowest.  Because of that, it's good to save a few more practices as backup than you would as a caster.  I generally have at least a dozen spare practices as a fighter, but usually less than ten as a caster.

If you think you've messed up too badly, you can always restart your character (if you've purchased practices with credits, the purchased practices will still be there after you restart.)  That resets your levels and clears all your spells and skills, so you can pick different things.

But really, in the long run, even the crappiest starting character can turn into something amazing.  You can always buy more practices later to train the things you're missing, and trust me - you'll be missing stuff.  Everyone does.

The Alter Aeon 20th anniversary has officially started!  There will be several events per day over the next few days, and we invite everyone to stop by and say hello.  We'll even have a 1995 version of the game running for people to check out and see how far we've come over the years.

The map on the server internally keeps track of around 2000 rooms normally; as you explore new places, that map fills up.  When the map is totally full, the oldest entries are replaced with newer ones, causing old areas to no longer be explored.  The map expansion listed in the donation section raises the number of rooms from 2k to 6k, which gives you about three times the amount of exploration before areas start to drop off the map.  For reference, there's about 35k explorable rooms on the game.

The map expansion does not make the map physically larger.
