it's automatic, whenever you have a successful catch the fish goes to your inventory assuming you have room for it.

Somewhat on topic, what's the largest fish people have caught in game?  I've heard of some pretty big catches (100+ pounds), but they're pretty rare.  What techniques work best for it?

Item: 'fish halibut'
Weight: 146  Size: 8'11"
Type: FOOD   Composition: MEAT   Calories: 15030
Estimated cost: 1910
This item is in new condition.

A nice rod helps. Fishing at a good level helps too of course.

Where can I get a nice rod.  I once had a bone rod, and had to drop it for a second when doing some inventory clean up, but once it hit the ground it dissappeard...Now I can't fish, and can't find a store that sells a rod and real.  I just can't find the Alter Aeon Western Marine.
